However, it should be noted that this is a rare occurrence as you’ll be destroying most enemies almost as quickly as they appear. As the screen becomes overpopulated with enemies and projectiles, there’s some very minor slowdown. It can be hard to tell enemy bullets from your pet’s lasers or coins and powerups. Once you get to some of the later stages, things can turn into absolute chaos. At times it can be difficult to tell exactly what’s happening on screen. Graphically, Ultratron performs well and only suffers from a few hiccups. By the final boss you’ll be a deadly robot-killing machine. The pets come with their own upgrades, allowing you to focus on upgrading yourself or your pets. These companions aid you in your quest to avenge humanity. In addition to buying shield and bomb upgrades, you can also purchase pets. None of the upgrades are very expensive, but a few are locked behind completing a specific number of levels. Upgrades don’t carry over from game to game, allowing you to try out new combinations every time you play. Kill enemies – earn cash – buy upgrades – kill enemies better There are no complex control schemes or in-game systems to learn everything boils down to point and shoot. What’s more important is that anyone can pick up Ultratron and have a good time with it. Because of this simple gameplay, Ultratron is a game that nearly anyone could pick up and play. After each stage, you can spend your hard earned cash on upgrades. Killing enemies will grant you points and money. You’ll face enemy robots in numbered stages, with a boss fight on the tenth stage. Movement is controlled with the left analog stick shooting is controlled by the right. The gameplay in Ultratron is simple and satisfying. Like they did with Puppygames’ Titan Attacks, Curve Digital is in charge of the console port for Ultratron. Ultratron was built from the group up as a tribute to the arcade classic Robotron 2048. It almost sounds like the plot to a big budget game or movie doesn’t it? Instead it’s the concept behind a small indie game developed by Puppygames. Humanity has been wiped from existence and as the last remaining humanoid battle droid you have one mission: avenge the human race. PC, PS3, PS4 (reviewed), PS Vita, Xbox One, Wii U.
